  3.         FAITH IS A FUNCTION OF THE REDEEMED HUMAN SPIRIT
  4.  
  5.  
  6. When a person is born again their spirit, which was formerly dead
  7. to God (Eph. 2:1) begins to function again, and its various
  8. faculties are restored to a correct operation, energised and
  9. directed by the Holy Spirit - I Cor.-6:17 & 20.  John 3:6.

  11. Note that the first part of 1 Cor. 6 deals with spiritual
  12. authority.  Then the subject_changes to that of fornication.  The
  13. emphasis of this ' chapter is that ye must glorify God is our
  14. spirit, and live by faith instead of mixing human methods or
  15. motivations with our_spiritual faculties.  This is spiritual
  16. adultery.  The redeemed have a totally new motivation and a new
  17. "modus operandi".  We do not work as the world does - manipulating,
  18. pulling strings, etc.  We live by faith in Almighty God and are
  19. enabled to move mountains in His name and live beyond ourselves in
  20. the miraculous dimension, thus glorifying God. 1 Cor. 6:20, John
  21. 14:13, and Heb. 1:6.

  23. LIVING OUT OF OUR SPIRIT IN THE REALM OF FAITH

  25. With many people "faith" is a hit or miss affair.  Often when we
  26. "feel" it, nothing happens, and on other occasions when we "feel"
  27. nothing, God works mightily on our behalf.  We can be confused
  28. wondering either what we did wrong or even what we
  29. did right.     Without a correct understanding of the various
  30.                parts of man's nature
  31. we will not    be able to exercise the faculty of faith
  32.                consistently or effectively.
  33. Man is made    up of 3 major Parts - Spirit, Soul and Body.

  35. BODY -    When this area of our life dominates, our faith it
  36.           affected by the desires, feelings or needs of the flesh,
  37.           and there is a concentration on circumstances, symptoms
  38.           or visible effects.  The body does not, and cannot live
  39.           in the unseen and visionary realm of faith.  If it does
  40.           not see or feel the thing, then it can't believe - John
  41.           20:25.  The body is motivated by the immediate and the
  42.           temporal interpreted by its 5 senses.

  44. SOUL -    The mind of man is not the source of faith - it is
  45.           instead the area of logic, will-power or emotions. it is
  46.           in this area that psuedo-faith is generated.  The soul
  47.           must be carefully controlled if the person is to truly
  48.           walk by faith.

  50. SPIRIT - It is from this area that true faith is expressed.  The
  51.      redeemed spirit of man contains three primary parts and it is
  52.      by the development and expression of these faculties of the
  53.      spirit that the faith received as a Gift from God is released.
  54.  
  55.      These faculties are:  Fellowship, Intuition and Conscience.
  56.  
  57.      a)   fellowship - Through a development of our love for God
  58.           and the_building up of the spiritual relationship there
  59.           comes an increased confidence in God's ability.  Just as
  60.           love in the marriage union promotes trust and confidence
  61.           in the other partner's willingness and ability to meet
  62.           our needs, so our communion with God enables us to trust
  63.           Him.  Gal. 5:6 declares that "faith works by love".  It
  64.           is common to see new converts in the first flush of their
  65.           new relationship with God so trusting and receiving so
  66.           much, while more "established" believers seem to find it
  67.           hard to receive blessings from God.  Often times it is
  68.           because the religious observances are maintained but not
  69.           the closeness of a personal relationship with the Lord.
  70.           A worshipping and loving relationship with God will also
  71.           bring an increased confidence in God's integrity.
  72.           Doubt is really casting a question on God's integrity,
  73.           which is the strategy of Satan seen in Genesis 3:1 -
  74.           "Hath God said?"
  75.           God is sovereign.  He is totally in control of all things
  76.           and a total confidence in His purpose and integrity will
  77.           promote real faith.  An acceptance of His sovereignty
  78.           will assist rather than inhibit the release of our faith.
  79.           b)   Intuition - The spiritual man has access to another
  80.                source of knowledge than that gained by the five
  81.                senses of the body or through the analytical or
  82.                deductive powers of the mind.

  84.                This other kind of knowledge is by revelation and
  85.                is the very foundation of the New creation life. it
  86.                is by this that we are able to receive Jesus as
  87.                Lord. - Note Matt. 16:15 -17.  Jesus said that
  88.                "revelation" is the rock on which His Church is
  89.                built.

  91.                Out of our fellowship with God there comes an
  92.                understanding or revelation of God's purpose and
  93.                strategy.  The special "word" or "Rhema" from God
  94.                which is the trigger of our faith comes to us
  95.                through this spiritual faculty of intuition.. Note
  96.                also l Cor 1:21, and James 3:15-17.

  98.           c)   Conscience - In our faith walk with God it is the
  99.                conscience which is the arbiter and not our mind or
  100.                common sense. 1 John 3:21-22, and Rom. 9:1 both
  101.                show that the conscience bears witness to the truth
  102.                and judges what is right rather than merely
  103.                condemning for anything wrong.  When we then move
  104.                in faith, the conscience will either check us or
  105.                approve us.

  107. The activities of these three areas in the redeemed human spirit as
  108. they relate to the release of our faith can be summed up as:
  109. a)   - Fellowship - worship
  110. b)   Intuition  waiting on  God
  111.    Conscience    wholeness
  112. it is essential to recognise what is spiritual and what is soulish
  113. so that we will operate in true faith and not a humanistic
  114. substitute.  Those who settle for soulish techniques will miss out
  115. on the true release of faith.

  118. Presumption is one of the major hazards to those ho attempt to live
  119. by faith and Jesus was tempted to this  sin by Satan - Matt 4:6. 
  120. It is the attempt to obligate God to our desires without first
  121. establishing God's intention and timing regarding that particular
  122. thing.
  123. Ps. 37:4 tells us that if we will live in communion with God we
  124. will receive revelation in the matter of our faith, ie God Himself
  125. will give us the desires of our heart or He will_put His plans in
  126. our heart. He will show us what to desire or believe for.  Note
  127. also Rom. 8:26.
  128. 1 John 5:14-15 sums up this aspect of faith.  The release of our
  129. faith depends an the confidence that we have developed in God
  130. Himself and this can only come about by our fellowship with Him.
